Alex Edney runs a one-person repair bench and guitar-building shop on the site of a former sawmill in Hiram, Maine. He built his first flattop at Vermont Instruments, trained in repair at Atlanta Guitar Works (class of 2007) and worked in the Boston area before moving the shop to western Maine in 2021. The bench handles everything from setups and fretwork to dovetail neck resets, hide glue bridge work and full restorations of vintage Martins and Gibsons. He also builds his own flattops from domestic hardwoods such as black walnut and cherry, each with a lifetime warranty.
